Filming Setup

Filming Setup

After receiving quite a few questions about what filming gear I use, I figured I would make this blog with all those details!

For those of you who are looking to start out on Youtube, I highly encourage just filming your videos with whatever you already have available to you - whether that is your phone, a friend's phone, or if your family/friends have a camera then great borrow that!! (that's what I started with) The most important thing is to just get started, have fun and create something you love!

Although this is the gear I find works best for me, I am in no way an expert in filming gear! What I use is solely based on what I have found works throughout my 10 years on Youtube :)

Camera Canon EOS R6

This camera is great for capturing all my video needs! This specific camera delivers high-performance results with sharp images, fast movement tracking, image stabilization, and most importantly autofocus and eye/face/head tracking. *one struggle with this camera* If I film longer then two hours it will overheat, so you have to give the camera time to cool off while filming! (kinda annoying but other then that I love it!)

Mount Adapter Mount Adapter EF-EOS R

This Mount Adapter allows me to connect any Canon EF or EF-S lens with the EOS R camera. This basically means not all canon lens fit with canon bodies the lens I use need this adapter to fit on my camera!

Image

Lens EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM

This is the primary lens that I use 95% of the time. The lens makes for clear, crisp videos! Also it autofocus quickly and decently quietly.

Lens EF 50mm f/1.8 STM

This is my talking head/ makeup lens. It's great for closeups as it has smooth autofocus and outstanding colour balance. The auto focus on this is completely silent but notice it is 50mm as in no zooming in or out it only stays at one distance.

Lens EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM

My wide-angle outfit lens. This lens provides a wider angle without distorting anything in shot. I used to use a different wide angle lens but it was distorting my head in videos LOL This one is great and doesn't distort!

Audio Blue Yeti Microphone

This popular microphone has worked well for me! It has crisp audio and drowns out background noise very well. I connect my microphone into my laptop and record a separate audio that I add during editing that way I always have a backup audio feeding in the camera microphone incase anything was to stop recording by accident!

Audio Rode VideoMic Pro

This may be overdoing it, but this microphone is my backup. It is always connected to my filming camera to capture audio just in case my main Yeti audio isn't recording. It is also beneficial for filming on the go as it connects straight to the camera and is relatively lightweight. The below link is for the newer, upgraded version.

Lights NEEWER Panel Light

It is so important to have good lighting to have that consistent footage no matter the conditions. There are so many great lighting options out there; I have a few different ring lights as well as panel lights to do the job. I like these panels for side lighting, so they don't shine directly in your eyes like I use my ring lights for, these are more for the sides so there aren't any shadows on my face!

Lights NEEWER Camera Tripod

Lots of people are passionate about their tripod choice... I am not. As long as it is relatively light and sturdy, it works! For me, this tripod is good quality, lightweight and does the job hehe

Camera Canon EOS M50 with 15-45mm STM Kit Lens

This is the vlog camera that I use for filming outside my studio. It captures excellent video while also being lighter-weight and portable. I also use this camera to film lots of my renovation videos because it's easy to move around rather then the big heavy canon r6!

Image

Lens EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM

This is another lens I often use for my vlog camera as it is wider than the standard lens. If you want to vlog but have a wider angle this one is really nice, that being said if you want to do closeup shots this isn't the lens to do that with!

Image

Lens GoPro Hero 11

GoPro is notorious for action and underwater filming, exactly why I like them! Also I like to strap the go pro to my head if I want some action shots while sewing! It also can record time lapse very well, so very dual purpose! But the audio from a gopro on it's own is not good enough IMO.

Extras

Storage LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt & USB 3.0 2TB

This hard drive is fast, works great and is very reliable. If you find yourself running out of space for your footage, buying a harddrive is a game changer. I only started using these 2 years ago and they have been a lifesaver!

SD Card SanDisk Extreme Pro 128GB 200MB/s SDXC Memory Card

This is the SD card I use! I am not an sd card expert but this one works good for me and I've never broke one so that's a good sign!

Laptop MacBook Pro

Firstly, use whatever you have available to edit - you don't need all the bells and whistles by any means! However, as this guide is about what I use, I'd like to include this here. I use my MacBook for everything, including editing videos, creating thumbnails, doing video research, and organization!
