Last spring I made a video showing how I take cuttings from my cherry tree. There has been a lot of interest in that video. Until recently I thought none of the cuttings had survived due to a heat wave and lack of watering. You will find me comment that several times in reply to people for that video. I left them there and occasionally I watered them, but I was sure they hadn't survived 10 days of 35-40C heat and no watering. When I went out to tuck a few seed potatoes in that space this spring I discovered one of the cuttings had some growth on it.
