This speaker delves into the critical issue of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Nepal, where they account for a significant portion of deaths, particularly among working-age individuals. The healthcare system faces substantial challenges, including limited resources, difficult geography, and political instability, exacerbating the burden of these diseases. Over a decade, Dr. Om Murti Anil has undertaken various initiatives, including publishing a health book, organizing health camps, and hosting radio and Facebook Live series to raise awareness. Dr. Om Murti Anil is a cardiologist, author, and social media personality. He is also the founder of the National Cardiac Centre in Basundhara, Kathmandu following with over 15 years of experience in various subspecialties of cardiology, and has performed more than 7000 cardiac invasive procedures in Nepal. He has awardered various medals by the President of Nepal, including Suprabal Jansewa Shree III, Nepal Bidhyabhusan Padak-I, and the Best Paper Award 2018 by NHRC & MSMT (Mrigendra Samjhana Medical Trust) by the Nepal Heart Foundation. He has also conducted one of the largest research studies in Nepal for the detection of cardiovascular risk factors among 5500 healthy young individuals in Kathmandu in 2014.
