Basic camp loadout for East Caicos on my 14ft Saltmarsh. We have made it to both Drum Point and Goods Hill on the east side of east Caicos and regularly visit Jacksonville to see the ruins and caves. Given the shallow nature of the backcountry access to these areas an extremely shallow draft vessel, even when heavily loaded, is required to provide access and any endurance to a camping trip on East Caicos. Oh yeah, I need to mention there are lots of bugs and as much as I hate them, they are the last true guardians of wild places...

Twelve (12) gal fuel provides approximately 50+ mile in range (100+ mile round trip) with modest reserve, two RTIC coolers provide enough ice/food/drinks for 4+ days with good ice management, and 8 gal water (or more) will give 4+ days camping for two people, depending on conditions and exertion levels. Cruise speed is around 20mph and 25mph wide open throttle (WOT) and sits at 5-6" draft, this is pretty much the max loadout for this vessel and should only be done for calm conditions and close to safe harbor. For reference, empty she can do 30mph at WOT and floats in 3-4" of water. With a typical day trip load, best fuel economy is approximately 14 mpg and she still gets about 5-6 mpg at WOT... This boat is mind bogglingly shallow running and care must be taken as to engine jackplate height and engine cooling. The SE sport has been trimmed to allow it to be moved forward several inches to prevent aeration of the prop and help water flow into the water pickups on the lower unit. Now to just figure a loadout that allows me to camp onboard...
