In this video, I'll be comparing the performance of the original Windows 10 versus today's Windows 10 on older hardware to show the difference in the feature builds (performance-wise) over the past 5 years. Windows 10 has seen many feature updates since its launch in 2015. And with each feature update getting roughly 18 months of support and security updates, you pretty much have to update to a newer feature build to remain supported. Compare that to prior Windows operating systems such as Windows XP, Vista, and 7, which had one RTM build service the whole lifespan, with 1-3 service packs released with time. With those older operating systems, you did not have to do the equivalent of upgrade-installing your OS every 6 months to 18 months. Also, performance and software support pretty much remained the same for those operating systems from the start to the end of their service lives. But with Windows 10, there has been a noticeable increase of demand for the computer's hardware with time as each new feature build was launched. This really started to become more apparent with Windows 10 1903. An older computer that ran Windows 10 1507 fairly well may not run Windows 10 20H2 all that great - and that's if you can even install it. In addition, drivers and some software that worked for 1507 may not work so well on 20H2. This is one of several reasons why I have not liked the "feature builds" aspect and every one of them being referenced as "Windows 10". It would have been nice if Microsoft would have offered continued security updates for the older builds, like they have for Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB/LTSC, and referenced each feature update as Windows 10.1, 10.2 etc, as was done with Windows 8. Although support for Windows 8 ended not too long after Windows 8.1 was released, performance and compatibility for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 were nearly the same.
