Getting started with essential oils can be overwhelming! There are so many different oils, so many uses for each one, and lots to learn. Don’t let the overwhelm stand in your way; essential oils are easier to use than they seem. You just need to learn a little bit first. These are the first things you need to know:
1. The quality of your oils matters.
Essential oils aren’t regulated by the FDA, so unfortunately you can’t always trust the label! Even if it says “100% pure essential oil,” your oils may have fillers added or may have been made with pesticide-sprayed ingredients. Be sure you are using oils that you know are free of fillers and are organic.
2. Essential oils must be diluted in a carrier oil.
Essential oils are very concetrated, so a little goes a long way! Some oils are considered “hot” and can burn the skin without being diluted, but it’s a best practice to dilute all of them, even if they aren’t hot. Carrier oils are a neutral oil, such as fracitonated coconut oil or jojoba oil, that you can add the oils to before applying them topically.
3. Find trusted resources.
There is a lot of information out there about essential oils, and some sources are better than others! It’s important that you are learning accurate information when it comes to using essential oils.
