Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced his resignation on Saturday after being placed under investigation on suspicion of corruption.
Kurz proposed that Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg succeed him as chancellor.
Kurz denies any wrongdoing and said he was willing to continue governing with his coalition partner, the Greens. However, the left-wing Greens said the investigation makes Kurz unfit to serve as chancellor and called on his party to name a successor that was “beyond reproach.”
It’s not clear if the Greens will accept Schallenberg as Kurz’s replacement.
