Perspectum organized a webinar on the topic of type 2 diabetes.
Dr Helena Thomaides-Brears, Dr Gayathiry Thanabalasingham and Prof Dan Cuthbertson, discussed type 2 diabetes, whilst focusing on the following topics:
• A research project (known as MODIFY) was conducted amongst patients with type 2 diabetes, by the University of Liverpool NHS Foundation Trust, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and Perspectum.
• The aim of the MODIFY study was to better understand type 2 diabetes and find out how to accurately diagnose it and related diseases.
• MODIFY used magnetic resonance imaging to assess the health of multiple organs in the body - including the liver, kidneys, pancreas, and spleen - in people with type 2 diabetes who had been prescribed glucose-lowering therapy.
• The images were analysed using a new technique that we hope will provide information to better understand type 2 diabetes and support the diagnosis of any related diseases or complications.
The following questions and topics were also covered:
• Which complications can occur in type 2 diabetes and why?
• How could the monitoring of diabetes be improved?
• How could people at high risk of complication and pre-diabetes be helped?
• What are the long-term health implications for people living with type 2 diabetes?
