Back in the 1990s the ulitmate test of a car's off road ability was not in the forests of Wales or Finland or the snow of Sweden. Instead it was in conquering the mighty Sahara desert in a full throttle sprint from Paris to the Senegalese capital of Dakar.
In the early part of the decade Citroën decided to take part with this, a barely related to the original version of the ZX, and it duly won in 1991. Now one of these cars is owned by Max Girardo, alongside several other legendary rally cars. Max talked us through what made this extraordinary Citroën so special.
