Each morning before class we have our forklift cylinder filled. It is not uncommon for one filled off a bobtail to be over 80% due to the GPM of the truck pump. Here's an option to manage it.
.
Overfilled cylinder: open the 80% vent, attach a connector (or flare) to the liquid side and vent until no liquid is visible from the bleeder. Close the tank valve and the bleeder. If you're lucky enough to have a good breeze and an open field you can vent to atmosphere like we did here.
We always check the cylinder level. A couple of times we didn't and by lunch the liquid had expanded to fill the cylinder to 100% and was bleeding through the pressure relief valve (causing a hydrostatic stress on the cylinder).
