There's few activities that are life changing. When westerners head to Southeast Asia, particularly Vietnam, a visit to the Cu Chi Tunnels qualifies as life altering. Being able to relive the history of the Vietnam War is priceless, fascinating, educating and humbling. Both the Allied Forces and Vietnamese incurred massive casualties that will never be forgotten. And, the scope of the disaster and danger couldn't be more apparent without seeing it first hand. The booby traps, tunnels, hiding spots and ambush points remain preserved.
Meanwhile, the Vietnam government has since preserved more than 70 miles of these tunnels in what's known as the War Memorial Park. Roughly an hour drive from Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) in the Cu Chi District lies the remnants of the Vietnam War, now a major tourist attraction. Today locals provide tours of the web of tunnels and other areas as you'll see here. After the tour there's also a shooting range where visitor can shoot many of the same weapons that were used during the war - for a free of course.
