During the First World War, there were a series of executions of British and Commonwealth soldiers who were condemned for military offences such as cowardice and desertion. These soldiers were then 'Shot At Dawn,' and they would be considered shameful. Many of these soldiers had signed up under false pretences to fight in the trenches, but a number of them were underage too.
