Do your due diligence and research the galleries ahead of time. If your artwork is like mine and falls somewhere between abstract and semi-realism, it’s a little trickier. It was better for me to just go in and assess the galleries. This was good in a few respects: I got to see how they treated me as a potential client. If they asked me questions and ascertained I was an artist, I did not lie. I told them what I was wanting. If they were then dismissive of me, I moved on. I wrote everything on the back of their business cards to help me remember. I spent 2 to 3 days just perusing the galleries and analyzing. If they rushed to tell me they were not looking for any new artists I simply stated that I was both a collector and artist and I would still want to meet a potential gallery.
