Here is a cheaper alternative to buying a Satellite Phone, This device works via Bluetooth connection along with your phone and it's independent app to send text messages through a Satellite Signal no matter your location. It tracks your location, sends out an SOS distress signal, checks the weather, and it allows you to use the device and the app to send unlimited TEXT messages no matter your location. It's much less vulnerable to security issues due to the fact that it operates on Satellite Technology verses Cellular. Your messages are secure. I know there are many GPS apps you can download like LIFE360 that will track your location but the problem with that is they are using Cellular Networks and the biggest question is can LAW ( aka UNLAWFUL ) enforcement subpoena these companies, think IPHONE giving over your personal data to the FBI as an example....something to think about?
