I’ve been handed a challenge, and I’m ready to take it up. We’re going to try and construct an Asian inspired hybrid bow. It is intended to look a lot like a Chinese, or Scythian horse bow. The hybrid part of this bow build comes into play by way of the fact that I will not be using siyahs, but rather reinforced recurved tips. Additionally, I’m using a wooden core with bamboo back and belly so no horn or sinew. I suspect that this design will produce highly strained limbs which is why we’ll be using bamboo - but is have seen similar bows of all-wood construction so obviously, it can be done successfully. This installment will cover materials and design elements that will be employed for this build.
Let’s get started!
