Hey guys, welcome back to KnifeHog.com! Addison here and today I’ll be reviewing the Ka-Bar Eskabar BK14.
With its name being derived from two of Ka-Bar’s most popular designs, the Becker Necker and the ESEE Izula, the Eskabar is one of Ka-Bar’s most unique fixed blade knives. With an overall length of 7” and a blade measuring 3 ¼”, this knife is extremely compact. The Eskabar is constructed of a single piece of 1095 Cro-Van steel, which is incredibly tough and able to take a fine, razor sharp edge. This knife is so tough and durable that it can process small game, batton down limbs and cut rope and line with ease. The handle of this knife boasts a bare, skeletonized design, but a section of paracord comes included so you can wrap the handle for a more textured grip. You could also tie the paracord around the enlarged lanyard hole at the end of the handle and tie it around your neck or pack. A small Kydex sheath also comes included with this knife.
Overall, the Eskabar is a unique and effective tactical knife. Its compact size, single steel construction, paracord and sheath make this knife the perfect little outdoor tool that is ideal for hikers and outdoorsmen who prefer to have lightweight knife while traveling. Although this knife seems flawless, it does have a few drawbacks. One drawback is that the Kydex sheath has no belt clip or loop, which means that you could really only carry this knife, in a secure fashion, around your neck or to a pack. Another drawback is that the section of paracord included with this knife is quite small and Ka-Bar only provides one section per package. This means that you either have to choose between wrapping the handle, carrying it around your neck or tying it to your pack. Of course, this dilemma could be easily fixed by purchasing extra sections of paracord, but I would personally like to see Ka-Bar include a metal chain for neck carry so the paracord could be used specifically for the handle.
We here at KnifeHog give this knife 3.5 out of 5 stars.
