Steven Carder, M.D. is a Family doctor. For 5 years Dr. Carder had been suffering with neck pain and daily headaches. About 20 years ago his jaw locked for the first time when he figured out how to push the jaw to one side and the other to unlock it. It had steadily gotten worse where it locked every time he closed his mouth. For the past 8 years he has been having to maneuver it in a certain way to be able to open and close. The only thing that would give him any type of relief was weekly massage therapy.

Dr Carder then went to a general dentist who recommended a full arch lower mouth guard. He wore it for 2 years. His dentist referred him to an orthodontist. From 2010-2012 he wore braces in hopes that it would help with the TMJ issues that he was having. The orthodontics did help with the temple pain for awhile but over the past 6 months it has worsened. The TMJ locks never improved.

Dr Carder is Dr Raman's family physician and knew about our practice and our approach to neuromuscular dentistry. He made the decision to come in for a TMD evaluation. Once it was determined that his symptoms were coming from a poor jaw alignment he decided to do a series of neuromuscular diagnostic testing. Dr Carder chose to move forward with phase I treatment and was fitted with a fixed Physiologic Neuromuscular orthotic.

Immediately after placing the orthotic Dr Carder noticed that there was no popping or locking and it was easier for him to open. He no longer had to maneuver his jaw side to side in order to open and close. After being in treatment for 90 days Dr Carder is doing well. He has had no clicking, headaches are pretty much gone and neck pain is much better. He said that his jaw is 100% better and overall feels like things fit better with the orthotic.
