What we love even more about it is that it is an endemic to Cuba!
This tiny little thing is about 2cm big, fully grown. But don’t let the size fool you, they are zippy little things – and when they are in mating season, they look like flying jewels in the air. Definitely make it a fun subject to capture on your camera, which is why it is also great to have someone like @liron_gertsman_photography by your side to give you tips and hints on capturing this bird in flight!
Our specialist birding guide in Playa Larga has these stunning creatures in his backyard, with other fascinating endemics like the also tiny Cuban Emerald and the Tody (also featured in our clip) as well as the Pygmy Owl. We can sit there for hours just admiring the birdlife…
Send us a ❤ if you’d love to see these birds in flight!
