A police checkpoint at Diyarbakir Airport in Turkey has been attacked by four rockets, causing explosions and leading to ‘considerable’ panic.
According to sources, the airport attack is believed to have been carried out by Kurdish militants.
The rockets were fired at one of the airport’s police checkpoints outside the VIP lounge. Broadcaster NTV said that the rockets landed on wasteland nearby.
Immediately following the attack, staff and passengers were taken inside a terminal building for safety.
Initial reports suggest that no injuries have yet been reported, however multiple emergency service vehicles including ambulances have been dispatched to the scene.
Diyarbakir Airport is a military airbase and public airport located in south-eastern Turkey. It is the home of part of the Turkish Air Force, and is also used by the 1st Expeditionary Rescue Group of the United States Air Force.
