This hauntingly beautiful song was composed by Ofra and Bosnian composer Goran Bregović for the movie „Queen Margot”, based on Alexandre Dumas' novel (on the movie soundtrack it was renamed „Elo Hi” ("My God"), on Ofra's 1994 album its' title was "Kol Haneshama" ("The Whole Soul").
This is a personal prayer to God to give the supplicant and the strength to everyone to deal with life's vicissitudes.
Lyrics (English translation):
My God, my God
The whole soul that you have given me
My God
Yes, there are so many things that are hidden from us
And there are desires that are unfulfilled
Like when we are born into this life
What is left when we are gone?
Yes, for all the many, many days
For the pain that never ceases to be
Like when we are born
And we are asking for mercy
My God
My God, the whole soul that you have given me
My God, what it is, this whole soul?
My God, just give strength to all of us
My God, just give strength to the whole world
