During the South African spring season, I visited The Great Karoo desert area. It is truly a magnificent and quiet place to be in. Here is my two weeks in THE GREAT KAROO, SOUTH AFRICA.
"South Africa's Karoo is one of the most serene and beautiful places on the African continent." - BRIAN JACKMAN, THE DAILY TELEGRAPH
A timeless landscape of space, stars and silence - The Great Karoo is a vast semi-desert region of more than 400,000 square kilometres stretching over the provinces of the Eastern, Northern and Western Cape. The Karoo offers the visitor vast plains, majestic mountains, champagne air and picturesque Karoo towns steeped in history and intrigue. The Succulent Karoo is notable for the world's richest flora of succulent plants, and harbors about one-third of the worlds approximately 10,000 succulent species. The region is also extraordinarily rich in geophytes, harboring approximately 630 species. There is no better place to clear your lungs, reconnect with your senses, and feel the stresses of daily life begin to slip away. Climb to the the top of a rocky outcrop on the edge of the Karoo basin, look out over an ancient and timeless landscape, and feel your heart soar. To immerse yourself in this landscape of infinite horizons is to place everything in your life in perspective once more.
