WHERE THE LAZY DAISIES GROW
(Cliff Friend)
Sung by Irving Kaufman
Selvin's Orchestra Accompaniment
Vocalion, A-14765, 1924.
Here is another peppy song from the 1920s that is in the same sunny spirit as "A Smile Will Go A Long, Long Way," which happens to be on the reverse side. Irving Kaufman is in his usual fine form on this record, which was found in the collection of my grandmother.
"I'm tired of drifting, sifting, lifting troubles
From my weary mind.
City life drives me dizzy, always bothered and busy!
Say! I'm so sick of all this hurry and its worry.
How my poor heart pines
Every time I recall,
Sweetest memories of all!
"Gee! It would be great
If I could go to sleep
And wake up where the lazy daisies grow!
One, I love; and two, I love;
And three, I'd love to wander where the lazy daisies grow!
Life to me would always be a holiday,
Down in the fields that I once knew!
'Cause if it satisfies
The bees and butterflies,
Then I'd be satisfied too!
"Just like Huckleberry Finn,
I'd wear a grin if I were in
The land of sunny smiles!
Just to see the one I love,
The one I'm always dreaming of,
I'd walk a million miles!
There is where
The world is fair
As paradise - a little birdie told me so!
Oh!
Gee! It would be great
If I could go to sleep
And wake up where the lazy daisies grow!"
