Oversharing on social media definitely could get us one way or another. Stay safe everyone!
Some people are using social networks like their diaries. They broadcast their problems and sadness and details of their personal information for people to see. Social networks are supposed to be used to engage with each other, share memories of good and bad times but oversharing becomes very problematic.
Oversharing on social media can hurt someone’s reputation.
Nothing is private on the internet and even though your profile is set to private your whole network sees what you post. It means that your network can repost and spread the information that you are sharing on your social media.
If you post something without thinking and say the wrong thing, it can have huge consequences.
Some people post or share something on Facebook or tweeter when they are angry. These posts are usually things they didn’t mean to say.
Those wrong posts can follow someone for a long time. Those can also break good reputations. Some careers are also ruined because of a couple of posts or tweets.
Before posting anything on social media, decide whether it is too private. If someone wants to target or stalk you in some way, they can learn about you by just checking on your profile. The more you share, the more information attackers get.
This can also put someone at risk for identity theft.
For example, if someone knows your financial information, he can easily look at your social media to find other information needed to forge your identity.
Information like the name of the first pet, or where did you go to college or high school, which are common security questions that attackers can see by looking on the social media of the user who overshare information.
Another reason why oversharing is dangerous is when posting or sharing pictures of your home, it reveals that you have valuable items like electronics, desirable collections, art, etc. to people who might want to steal them.
Photos or information about family members also exposes their locations, and identities that can potentially make them targets.
Posting photos from the trip you're currently on is also another piece of information that a criminal can have the advantage of knowing that you are currently out of town.
So if someone who is in the business or part of the business shares too much information on social media it can hurt both his reputation and the reputation of the company.
Sharing too much information can also compromise the company's confidential information. Social media accounts can be hacked by a criminal using the information available on the social networks of the victim.
In short, we can say that oversharing on social networks is indeed a bad habit both personally and professionally.
We love you all!
