One of the best ways to protect your baby from contracting pertussis (whooping cough) is to make sure that you, and all of your infant's close contacts, are vaccinated. Whooping cough is a potentially deadly infection that can strike at any age, but is particularly dangerous for babies. More than 60% of babies (or 3 out of 5) with reported cases of pertussis are hospitalized, and more than 90% of pertussis-related deaths are among babies younger than 4 months of age.
