A 44-year-old Staten Island woman has been charged with trespassing, interference with government agency functions, and disorderly conduct after climbing the Statue of Liberty on the Fourth of July.
Therese Patricia Okoumou pleaded not guilty to all charges in Manhattan Federal Court Thursday afternoon.
Crowds cheered in front of the courthouse as she stepped up to the podium to speak publicly for the first time since the climb.
"Michelle Obama ... said when they go low, we go high. And I went as high as I could," Okoumou said.
