The EEO Counselor or EEO Specialist handling your case may offer an alternative way to resolve your complaint from the traditional EEO counseling process in the informal stage, or at anytime in the formal stage of the EEO complaint process. This is called Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). The Department of State’s primary method of ADR is mediation. It is a meeting between the aggrieved person/complainant and the responsible management official, facilitated by a neutral mediator. The mediator helps the parties reach resolution for the dispute.
