Lujanta is a 3 pitches WI4 ice climbing route with a near vertical second pitch near the village of Colfosco (Calfosch) in the Alta Badia valley in the Italian Dolomites (Dolomiti).
APPROACHING LUJANTA
Approaching Lujanta is really easy and will take you about 20 minutes. You should park your car at the parking lot near the ski piste at Restaurante Mesoles. From there you simply cross the ski piste towards Lujanta that you can clearly see from the parking lot.
1st Pitch: The first pitch of Lujanta near Colfosco (Calfosch) in Alta Badia in the Italian Dolomites (Dolomiti) is a rather easy ice climb of about 40 meters over some steep ice. There is a huge basin at the bottom of Lujanta where you have several options belaying from. Lujanta is extremely popular due to its short approach and as a mid-grade climb it is a great introduction to steep ice climbing. But after about 40 meters you will find a bolted belay on the right side
2nd Pitch: The second pitch is about 40 meters and offers a bolted belay on the right side two
It is about the same sustained steepness as the first pitch, but eases up significantly at the top.
3rd Pitch: The third pitch is about short of about 30 meters with a very meters of steep ice, but is mostly bulges of ice
On the right side of Lujanta near Colfosco (Calfosch) in Alta Badia in the Italian Dolomites (Dolomiti) there is a bolted belay, but it is a bit hidden in a corner covered by bushes.
DESCENT
When ready for descending Lujanta, you simply abseil down the line. But be careful, because there could be other teams below.
GEAR
Bring 12 ice screws and 12 alpine quick draws then you are good to go. There is no need to bring any rock climbing gear as this is a pure ice climb, but take some long slings and carabiners for the belay at the trees if you miss the bolted belay. However bring two 60 meters half ropes for the abseil at the top.
