I decided to ditch the music this week & just let the sounds of the shop draw you in. On the lathe this week, I had the opportunity to turn this beautiful figured piece of oak with some spalting & it came out a lot better than I anticipated. Normally, I would keep the small carved feet detail for pieces that do not have interesting grain or colors but I broke my rule this week & added them on to this bowl & I am glad I did. I was unsure how the piece would look once it was all said & done believing the bowl would be too busy but I think the feet detail really compliments the colors, grain & natural edge of the bowl. Also to go along with my experimenting, I recently purchased this Dark Tung Oil made by Real Milk Paint Co. I wanted this piece to have a natural darker tone without using a traditional stain. Since the dark tung oil is organic, I figured it would be the most straightforward finish to use to achieve the look I was going for. All in all, I am very happy with this bowl & love the way it "turned" out.... but if you enjoyed this video, please be sure to click the like button & subscribe if you would like to see more videos like this!
