Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibetans, has sparked a massive controversy after a video went viral. In the video, Dalai Lama can be seen kissing a boy at a public event and is also heard telling the boy - "suck my tongue".
The Dalai Lama has now apologized after the video created global outrage. In a statement, the office for the Dalai Lama said he “wishes to apologize to the boy and his family, as well as his many friends across the world, for the hurt his words may have caused,” adding he “regrets” the incident.
“His Holiness often teases people he meets in an innocent and playful way, even in public and before cameras,” the statement said.
The incident reportedly took place during an event in the hillside city of Dharamshala in February.
Will the apology of the 87-year-old spiritual leader be sufficient?
