The workshops will provide an overview of the potential opportunities for universities and colleges in the United States to sponsor refugee students under the newly established private sponsorship program Welcome Corps. The workshop will aim at providing participants with an overview of the steps campuses can take to build on-campus support, how to best leverage campus resources to support refugee newcomers on campus, and the benefits of welcoming refugee students for campus communities. The direct objectives of the workshops are to: Workshop I: Mobilizing Student Groups and Clubs - Provide an overview of university and college sponsorship - Identify the opportunities and challenges of university and colleges in sponsoring refugee students on their campuses - Identify tools, resources, messaging, and strategies students can utilize to mobilize their campuses to sponsor refugee students on their campus - Identify allies on campus to support university and college sponsorship (students, faculty, staff) - Develop strategies to gain support from campus leadership - Map the campus ecosystem in support of refugee student sponsorship - Build an action plan to get involved in university/college sponsorship Workshop II: Mobilizing university/college administrators - Provide an overview of university and college sponsorship - Identify the opportunities and challenges of university and colleges in sponsoring refugee students on their campuses - Identify tools, resources, messaging, and strategies administrators can utilize to mobilize their campuses to sponsor refugee students on their campus - Identify allies on campus to support university and college sponsorship (students, faculty, staff) - Develop strategies to gain support from campus leadership - Map the campus ecosystem in support of refugee student sponsorship - Build an action plan to get involved in university/college sponsorship
