The protagonist is Rishab Shetty, in what I can safely say right now for me, thus far has been the performance of the year, across languages. Shiva’s journey from lout to the divine is a masterclass in character development, frankly as is his acting performance. He manages to tell a story seemingly masala and mainstream, and just when you least expect it, subverts the whole damn thing. BAM this is now magic realism. BAM now we’re going to explore why humans created religion and how its been weaponized by nefarious upper-caste rich folks. BAM now im possessed by spirit Guliga and you have no idea where I'm taking you next.

The man is a sensational performer, whose written himself an incredible part. Shiva isn’t the traditional devout type, he eats meat, drinks alcohol, and is very sexual. And yet, as is his fate, society ke norms about proper conduct destabilize ho jaate hain, like they should. I couldn’t figure how many of his own stunts he does, I did read he trained for months for the Kambala sequence, but here’s a man fighting for his community’s right to live with dignity. hand to hand, sword to sword, in keechad, in a forest, each move is a nimble, light-footed, choreographed dance. And of course there is choreographed dancing as well.

Kantara is a 2022 Indian Kannada-language action drama film written and directed by Rishab Shetty, and produced by Vijay Kiragandur under the banner of Hombale Films. The film stars Shetty as a Kambala champion, often at loggerheads with an upright DRFO officer Murali. It involves culture of Kambla and Bhootha Kola. A human and nature conflict where Shiva is the rebellion who works against nature.
