This week on the Magnet Minute, Amy shares her advice on how many times your brand should post to have an engaging presence on social platforms. This stems from the video we did recently about the best times to reach an audience, so take those tips into account with this video as you plan your social editorial calendar.
Facebook has made a lot of changes over the years. It used to be that brands really couldn't get away with posting more than once a day, but the development of Timeline and the Edgerank algorithm, a brand should post more often for content to have a better chance of getting the attention it needs for a good ROI.
Posting once or twice a day is definitely adequate to make sure you're consistently updating, but because average, unpromoted posts from brand pages are only reaching about 15% of their fan base each time, more frequent posting is acceptable.
Twitter is a completely different story. There's no algorithm to worry about, just know that a normal tweet only lasts a few seconds, depending on how influential you are within your community, as opposed to the couple of hours that a Facebook lasts. You must post many times a day on Twitter if you want to get any attention at all, and timing is important as well. No less than 5-10 times per day, although only some of those have to be unique content. You can stay active on the network by replying or retweeting others, making writer's block less of an issue.
