The biogas plant at Okny is the first plant in Ukraine that works 100% on renewables without any waste substrate. Maize is grown for silage, specifically for green energy production.
Biogas is produced by the proven, classic, two-stage technology.
The plant consists of a reactor and post-digestor. All equipment is reliable and made in Germany.
The main volume of biogas is produced in the reactor, where fermentation is done by anaerobic bacteria. The substrate is periodically mixed and heated to a temperature of 44 C in the reactor. A post-digestor allows increased biogas production of 5%.
Digested substrate is separated into liquid and solid biofertilizers, which provides additional income. The value of biofertilizer is determined by its nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium content.
Biogas, processed to remove moisture and sulfur, is burned in a Jenbacher co-generator.
Heat from engine cooling is recycled for greenhouse use.
Electricity generated is supplied to the grid and sold at the “green tariff”.
The plant is fully automated and easy to manage. The maintenance staff consists of an operator and an electrician.
A modern laboratory tracks changes in the biological process at each stage of fermentation.
