The 1995 Atlantic Hurricane Season featured a historic amount of storms: 19 total, the most since 1933 while being the first hyperactive season since 1969. It also featured 10 storms that rapidly intensified, the most of any season before 2020 tied it, and also kicked off an active period in the Atlantic that we are still in today. The season also received an Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) rating of 228, the 4th highest at that time. And even with all of this, no category 5 hurricanes formed the entire year.
The season started with Allison, a rare June hurricane. This was followed by 4 storms forming in July, breaking the record for the most storms forming that month (later broken by 2005). An extremely active August followed which had 7 storms, tying the record set by 1933 with the most amount of named storms in August (later broken by 2004). Notably this month, 5 tropical cyclones were simultaneously active at once which had only occurred once before (1971) and one time since (2020). Also in this month, Hurricane Luis formed which would later become the first storm to affect the Leeward islands in 6 years, devastating the region as well as Canada. In September, 3 more storms formed including Hurricane Marilyn which further devastated the Leeward Island and was rated as the worst storm in 6 years. This was followed by Hurricane Opal which after devastating Central America and Mexico with heavy rains, rapidly intensified at a rate similar to that of Hurricane Laura (2020) and made landfall in the Florida panhandle as a Category 3 hurricane becoming the 3rd costliest storm in U.S. history at that time. October brought 4 more storms with most notably Hurricane Roxanne looping and stalling just off the coast of Mexico bringing over 2 feet of rain and strong winds. The last storm of the season, Tropical Storm Tanya, dissipated on November 1.
