Super Sukhoi Program:
India has launched a Rs 60,000 crore upgrade program to modernize the Sukhoi-30 fleet. The upgrade will replace older Russian subsystems with modern Indian ones and is divided into two phases:
Installing new avionics and radars.
Enhancing flight control systems.
The project, led by HAL, will include significant private sector participation and will feature modern AESA radars, electronic warfare capabilities, upgraded AL-31FP engines, and the integration of modern weapons systems.
Russia - Bottlenecks:
Russia is facing supply chain issues due to sanctions and the war, impacting its ability to import necessary inputs. As a result, the global supply of Russian arms is suffering. To counter this, Russia is looking towards India as a new hub for its arms industry.
What New Has Emerged:
HAL is in active talks to build these fighter jets at its Nashik facility with support from Russia, reinforcing the strategic partnership. This includes joint manufacturing and technology transfer agreements, akin to the BrahMos joint venture.
Export Market:
India is set to become a hub for both new Su-30MKI jets and their upgrades. Potential buyers include countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Algeria, eager to enhance their air force capabilities. With over 600 Su-27/30 type aircraft globally, India will play a pivotal role in building Super Sukhois for international markets.
