There are three taipan snake species and they are known as the most venomous land snakes in all of Australia. Still, they're not as fearsome as their reputation makes them out to be. The inland taipan, who is also known as the fierce snake, may be one of the world's most venomous snakes, however, it's quite shy. Contrary to what its other common name may suggest, the inland taipan is called "fierce" not for its temper but for its ability to survive in the fierce Australian outback! The coastal taipan, while technically less toxic than the inland taipan, has a more fiery attitude, but even these long snakes prefer to run from a fight if given the opportunity.
