The 101st on D-Day had a rendezvous with destiny. That destiny would be forged in the hedgerows and lanes of Normandy.
Instrumental in securing the exits from Utah beach on D-Day along with other objectives on the eastern side of the Cotentin Peninsula it would eventually be tasked with capturing the vital city of Carentan to link the Utah and Omaha Beach bridgeheads.
Marmion Farm, located just south of Ravenoville near Utah Beach would, on the morning of D-Day become a rally point for misdropped paratroopers of the 101st Airborne.
After assaulting the German Garrison located there, Major John Stopka, the Executive Officer of the 3rd Battalion, 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment would assemble the scattered troopers to form an ad hoc force to take the fight to the enemy.
It was also the sight of some of the most iconic footage filmed on D-Day by US Army cameramen coming ashore from Utah Beach.
