The Muay Thai shuffle kick is an advance technique you can use in sparring or fights to confuse your opponent and keep them guessing your next move. My friend Saenchai likes to use this as one of his arsenal of tricks and feints in his fights.
• As you shuffle your feet, keep your body weight centered and relaxed.
• Make sure you swing your arms in the OPPOSITE direction of your feet for balance, just like when you are running.
• When you stop shuffling, throw a kick with the back leg.
• If you stop with your left leg on the back, your left arm should be in front, ready to swing back as you throw the kick.
Besides the body kick, you can also follow up the shuffle steps with a push kick (also using the back leg) to your opponent’s stomach, catching them off balance as they lift one leg up to check the kick they thought you were going to throw.
Alternate the body kick with push kick after the shuffle to make it even more difficult for your opponent to read your moves.
The fans love to see it in a fight, but make sure you can do it properly first before trying!
