During the 46th annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival, the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage in collaboration with the Karabakh Foundation presented Azerbaijani food, music, and culture. The Music From the Land of Fire concert, featuring Imamyar Hasanov on the kamancha (spike fiddle) and Pezhham Akhavass on the Tombak (persian goblet drum), introduced music lovers to the sounds of mugham (traditional Azerbaijani music).
Music From the Land of Fire was one of two Azerbaijani concerts presented on the National Mall in 2012. Both concerts brought in a crowd of several hundred individuals.
The audiences responded with tremendous enthusiasm, giving several standing ovations. Some were moved to tears.
