A walk around the exterior and interior of Carlisle Cathedral, in the Lake District of the UK.
The Lake District is one of the most popular places to visit in the UK, receiving over 15 million visitors each year. And yet, most of them will not have seen Carlisle Cathedral. It is the second smallest cathedral in the UK. Construction started in 1123 - it is 900 years old!
Wandering around outside we see many of the lovely old buildings attached to the site, take a brief detour into the garden of the nearby Tullie House museum, then back to the cathedral.
Inside we stare up in amazement at a beautiful vaulted ceiling painted as a sky. The interior is bare sandstone, yet no less lovely for this. There are some amazing dark oak carvings.
Well worth a visit. It's free to enter, it's small and compact and easy to get around if you are in a hurry, but with plenty to discover if you have a little more time.
Thank you for watching. Please enjoy and share.
