Former US intelligence contractor Edward Snowden has asked Ecuador for asylum and this has been confirmed by the Ecuadorian foreign minister and Wikilieaks. Snowden initially fled the US for Hong Kong but is now in Moscow. He is currently in Moscow after a US extradition request to Hong Kong failed. Snowden recently leaked classified documents revealing US internet and phone surveillance.
