We spotlight Journi P. McGee, an 11th grader at the Los Angeles County High School of the Arts (LACHSA), a performing arts school where students are immersed in arts classes in the afternoon. She shares her concerns about missing in-person growth with her classmates during 9th and 10th grade due to the pandemic.
"Because of the pandemic I lost a year and a half. I've really only been in school this year. Next year I'll be an adult and a senior, and I'm I'm terrified," she says.
Journi tests for COVID-19 to keep herself and others around her safe. "I just lost my grandfather from COVID and also dementia," she says.
After graduation from LACHSA next year, Journi has her eyes on Howard University, Juilliard Art School, or Royal Academy of the Arts in London.
