A 1948 ‘recording ban’ hit, using only ‘union-approved’ musical instruments.* The voices of sisters Trudy & Gloria Marlin were most frequently heard as singers on Frankie Yankovic’s multi-million-selling “Blue Skirt Waltz” ( [ Ссылка ] ), but this post is notable as the first nationally-charted release on which Eddie Fisher was featured. The major 1948 song hit (from the German language song “Du Kannst Nicht Treu Sein”) was most famously recorded by organist Ken Griffin, issued in both his original instrumental version ( [ Ссылка ] ) and with an overdubbed vocal by Jerry Wayne ( [ Ссылка ] ).
Billboard Chart Peaks: 19 (sales) & 22 (juke box)
* During the nearly year-long strike by James C. Petrillo’s American Federation of Musicians, new vocal recordings for commercial release could be produced only as a cappella (all vocal...no instruments) or using such lesser, ‘union-approved’ tools as harmonicas, ukuleles and toy xylophones.
Transferred from 78rpm single Columbia 38211 - You Can’t Be True, Dear (Ebeler-Cotton-Otten-Griffin) by The Marlin Sisters with Eddie Fisher, accompanied by The Columbians .
