STORYLINE:
Thousands of people joined a procession in Santiago to remember the victims who were forcibly disappeared during the Chilean dictatorship.
The Operation Colombo victims all disappeared between May 1974 and February 1975 during Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship (1973-1990).
The list of people killed, tortured, or imprisoned for political reasons during Pinochet’s regime totaled 40,018.
The government estimates that over 3,000 were killed, including about 1,100 of whom no trace has ever been found.
The government of President Gabriel Boric announced a national plan to search for the disappeared, a task that has relied on the efforts of relatives and groups of victims for years.
