Heythrop 3rd February 2024.
Eyford, Slaughters.
We found quite a few car followers waiting expectantly near to Copse Hill. It was clear that they were expecting the Heythrop to turn up there and go to Kirkham Farm and Slaughter woods. However with sabs there waiting about for the hunt to come out of Eyford there was a change of plan.
The first part of the day was watching huntsman Chris Woodward take hounds away from us. First it was Swell Wold Farm and then into North Cotswold country up the byway just north of Tagmore and into Trafalgar. There may be a turf war in the offing indeed the NCH often pop into Heythrop country.
Near Cedar Gables Farm near Condicote they had just second horsed and some were getting a bit snotty as a sab' was close to hounds filming. The sab concerned was pushed about by Charlie Frampton whilst mounted.
Then they decided to just blatantly hunt foxes, went over into Granny's Bank Coppice and found a fox. The poor creature was hunted around the Slaughters and particularily Kirkham Farm for an hour. At one stage hounds were in Slaughter woods and a sab' tried to stop them but to no avail. Then Archie (whipper in) decided to ride close to the sab and say she was not allowed to interupt a legal activity which was a bit daft of him. Eventually the pack were seen piling into a dip in a field at Fir Farm. It was either a kill or they had marked to ground. When we went into check multple hound prints and scratch marks were around a drain entrance. The area stank of the fox safe within the drain.
They put hounds back into Slaughter woods after this and hunted another fox. At one stage a hound with a head in their mouth was seen on the road. Had they killed or scavenged from a dead corpse.
Soon after a sab heard someone on a quad say that they 'got it' and pointing to where the hounds had come from. We cannot confirm that the fox hunted from Slaughter woods was killed but it is certainly possible.
