-----MAJOR CRUISE NEWS: THE CRUISE RESTART IN U.S.------
Norwegian Cruise Line made latest cruise news updates last Monday when it announced it would be ready to sail from the U.S. by July 4th. This bold cruise update had a few stipulations. Among them, was the CDC lifting the Conditional Sailing Order. NCL's new Sail SAFE program does include 100% vaccinated cruises. So, they are offering some of the most stringent health and safety protocols to date by any cruise line.
In several instances, the CDC cruise update to the cruise lines was hopeful. In a statement the following day, a spokesperson for the CDC indicated she was hopeful for a mid-summer return of partial cruising. On Wednesday, in another interview, a director for the CDC indicated that cruise lines could start as early as July with sailings, given certain criteria are met. In this major cruise update, the director stated that cruise lines still need to get the required agreements laid out in the technical instructions and to mitigate any potential fourth wave of COVID-19 in the U.S.
-----WHEN WILL CRUISING RESUME IN U.S.------
Now, if you follow the latest cruise news, you know that the cruise lines and CLIA have been publicly urging for the CSO to be lifted. The cruise lines claim the CDC's new guidelines are "too burdensome" and are a hindrance to get cruising restarted in the U.S. In fact, on Thursday, the Governor of FL sued the CDC, requesting an immediate return of cruising and lifting of the Conditional Sailing Order. Now, none of the cruise lines responded to this lawsuit, but some representatives did express the desire to get cruising restarted from the U.S. ASAP.
That brings us to where we are now, with the cruise lines and CDC at a stalemate. It appears that the groups have not been working together at all. This is counter to our belief that the cruise lines had been working behind the scenes all along to create plans to restart cruising in the U.S. As this major cruise news shows, this was not the case.
Further, the two are at odds about what the requirements should be, even though cruise lines have put together comprehensive health and safety protocols that include vaccinations. It appears the cruise lines do not want to go through the extra burden of getting agreements in place and conducting test cruises as the CDC requests.
So, if you want to restart cruising this summer, your best bet is to book one of the several cruises that originate from either the Bahamas, Bermuda, or the Caribbean. We are booked on three such sailings, as we don't see the battle of the CDC vs. The Cruise Lines ending anytime soon.
