Hispano-Suiza invented the sports car, helped win World War One in the air, invented servo brakes and even helped the US airforce bomb their own factory after it was captured by the Nazis in World War Two. But for a company that changed the course world history a couple of times, it’s amazing how few people really know Hispano-Suiza. A lot of it was down to an amazing Swiss engineer Marc Birkigt, who along with Spanish businessman Damián Mateu was the driving force behind Hispano-Suiza.
After an 80 year absence from building cars, the brand is back in the spotlight. The Barcelona-based company is attempting to go full circle and return to its pioneering roots with two EV hypercar models, the Carmen and the Carmen Boulogne, and a racing team in the Extreme E electric SUV rally series.
US car collector Michael Fux has gone all in with a purple-copper Boulogne.
