The pathophysiology of placental abruption is not fully understood. However, it is thought to be caused by a combination of factors, including uteroplacental hypo perfusion, decidual hemorrhage, or placental inflammation. When these factors occur, they can damage the blood vessels that connect the placenta to the uterine wall. This can lead to bleeding and the separation of the placenta from the uterus.
Placental abruption can have several negative consequences for the mother and baby. For the mother, placental abruption can increase the risk of complications such as postpartum hemorrhage, DIC, and kidney failure. For the baby, placental abruption can reduce the supply of oxygen and nutrients, and can also increase the risk of stillbirth and other complications.
