The North Shan State Army (AKA Shan State Progress Party - Shan State Army, SSPP-SSA) was the western part of the Central Military District, CPB-NPA since 1971. After the dissolution of the CPB caused by the counterrevolutionary rebellion led by Pheung Kya Shin in the Northeastern Military District (Kokang) on March 11, 1989, it became the local troops of the new founded North Shan State, the Third Special Region of Shan State. They share the same song "I love Shan State" with the South Shan State Army, successor of the drug lord Khun Sa's Mong Tai Army (MTA) with remnants of Bandit Chiang Kai Shek's Army, which is inherited from the 1971 reactionary song “I love China (我愛中華)" . Lyrics unknown (The reactionary lyrics would have been removed). It is also the origin of "I love Wa State (我爱佤邦 Aux muih Meung Wax)”.
