"This song has been a long time coming. I started writing this song in the Summer of 2015 while visiting Listuguj and still feeling the sting of grad school. Wreckonciliation represents what I saw then and still see today; virtue signaling and a lack of substance. "Reconciliation" and "Decolonization" have become buzzwords and processes that have been co-opted and are largely managed by non-Indigenous peoples. I originally intended for this song to be for the Mi'gmaq Nation but it has since become a song for all of our Nations. It represents first hand frustrations with colonialism and is an expression driven by radical imagination. Make no mistake, Indigenous children are still apprehended by the state at alarming rates, communities still do not have clean drinking water, our people are still beaten and discriminated against. We are nowhere near the intended decolonized or reconciled utopia that we dream of. This is Wreckonciliation." - Lewis
